World Alpine Ski Championships Day 10 - 2015 |
February 10th 2015 |
We woke to snow (actual, falling snow) today - something of a surprise when we have been having Spring-like conditions since arriving. After an OK training session in less than OK conditions (having been moved from the normal training hill because of the Nations' team event), I joined my family to watch the race from the stadium at Golden Peak. The competition was exciting. I was holding my breath watching Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest (who both race for GBR) as GBR managed to qualify to compete thanks to the Japanese team's withdrawal from the competition. The final was a nailbiter between Canada and Austria - one of the Canadian girls had recovered from a nasty fall in the first round but skied well and won her last heat. Austria were victorious but I think the Canadian team were more than pleased with their silver medal in such illustrious company. The view from the stands at the Nations team event. Pat, me, my Dad, Flo and Alain busy barbecuing our dinner. In the evening, the whole team (including our coach, Conor's Dad, Tess and Maxime's parents and my parents) went to the Country Club at Minturn where we cooked our own steaks - all the boys chose enormous Porterhouse steaks - delicious! And we celebrated the belated arrival of our jackets. |
